Website redesign with a controlled migration
Update content and interface alongside URLs, forms and analytics. A release should be verifiable and reversible.
Start with the decision
A redesign can pass a homepage review while breaking an old landing page, proposal or form handler. Before building, inventory pages, important assets, inbound links and contact routes. Decide which URLs stay in place before changing the structure.
Keep a working URL when its purpose has not changed. Map merged pages to a relevant replacement rather than redirecting everything to the homepage. Test a separate preview and take a backup before switching.
The work and how to accept it
Inventory
List pages, forms, files and old-to-new URL mappings.
Preview
Check mobile layouts, canonicals, languages, links and form failures.
Release
Compare published pages and assets, legacy URLs and contact routes.
Scope boundaries
Retaining URLs reduces technical risk but cannot guarantee rankings. Content changes and search systems can affect visibility, which needs monitoring after launch.
Evidence from our work
The BYstudio migration separately verified 146 pages, resources and nine legacy URLs while retaining forms and the enquiry queue. This demonstrates release discipline, not proven search traffic growth.
Open the project and evidencePractical questions
Can old proposals remain public?
Yes. BYstudio retained their public indexability at the owner’s request. Another site should decide according to the purpose of its materials.
How do we check the form survived?
Test validation, server failure and storage on an agreed environment. A real test submission and its recipients are agreed separately.
How to start
The initial review is free. A BYstudio specialist or Yan Bunin handles your enquiry. Describe the task, current tools and intended change. We then agree the first phase, price and acceptance criteria under a contract.
